Trang An boat tour through the caves
Trang An is the best-known sight of Ninh Binh. Local residents row you through a chain of caves that cut through the mountains, past flooded valleys and small temples on the water. The Trang An scenic area belongs to the Trang An Landscape Complex, and the tourism office places it in Tay Hoa Lu under the post-reform address names.
A boat ride lasts about 3 hours on the longer routes and about 1.5 to 2 hours on the shortest. You can go on your own and buy the ticket on site, or book a tour that includes the pick-up and the ticket. Whichever you choose, ask for the local status, because boat operation depends on the weather.

Our picks: tours with a Trang An boat
All three include a boat ride; one lets you choose Trang An or Tam Coc, and the other two combine Hoa Lu, Mua Cave, or biking and hiking. In storms and floods the authority can suspend routes or operations at short notice, so check the local status before you book.

Trang An ticket price 2026
According to the official price list updated 27 February 2026, the adult ticket for people over 1.3 m is 300,000 VND and includes the boat and the landscape visit. Children from 1 to 1.3 m pay 150,000 VND and children under 1 m are free. People over 60 pay 150,000 VND, but the route information asks for a Vietnamese identity card (CCCD), and a foreign passport may not be accepted instead. If your tour includes the ticket, you do not pay this on top.
Storms, floods and boat operation
Boat rides at Trang An are part of the regular offer. In a storm or flood the authority can pause some routes or the whole operation at short notice. Ask the organiser or the ticket counter for the local status before your day, and keep a spare day if you can. More in weather in Ninh Binh.
UNESCO Trang An Landscape Complex
UNESCO listed the Trang An Landscape Complex in 2014 as a mixed cultural and natural site, with 6,226 ha inscribed and a buffer zone of 6,026 ha. It includes the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, the Trang An area, Tam Coc, Bich Dong and the Hoa Lu special-use forest. UNESCO describes human use of the area over more than 30,000 years. Bai Dinh pagoda lies in the buffer zone. Only this complex carries the listing, not the whole province. See Hoa Lu.
Trang An tours and what goes with them
Most tours with a Trang An boat also visit Hoa Lu and Mua Cave, and some let you choose between Trang An and Tam Coc when you book. Some add cycling and a hike. Open the page of each tour to see which stops are in the programme. To compare more options, see Ninh Binh tours and the Ninh Binh day trip from Hanoi. For a boat on a different river, see Tam Coc and Bich Dong.
Heritage bus between Trang An and Bai Dinh
A notice from the tourism office dated 24 July 2026 describes a free heritage bus linking Trang An, Bai Dinh pagoda and Dong Chuong lake, every 2 hours from 7:00 to 17:00. The notice does not say whether the line runs today, so ask at the counter or the tourism office before you build it into your plan. The electric car inside the pagoda is a different, paid service. See Bai Dinh pagoda.
Rowers, life jackets and tips
Local residents row the boats. The tourism office asks guests to wear life jackets, follow instructions and leave no litter in the landscape. A tip is not compulsory and no amount is set, so decide yourself if you are happy with the ride. One tour lists tips for the boat rowers as optional.
Kong: Skull Island at Trang An
The tourism office names Trang An as a filming location of "Kong: Skull Island", based on a post from 2024. That is a note about a shooting location, not a promise of a set you can visit today.
